Sebastian Johansson Joins the byFounders Team

Born and raised on the border between Sweden and Denmark, Sebastian is a Scandinavian at heart. For the past couple of years, he has truly cultivated an international mindset, working and studying across several continents.

Sebastian’s first international experience involved going on exchange in the US, where he attended high school in New Jersey. This experience piqued his interest in living abroad to the extent that he enrolled at the University of Warwick in the UK. Here, he focused predominately on Behavioral Science, Strategic Issues, and the intersection between Economics and Politics as well as picking up a borderline unhealthy addiction to Earl Grey.

“I believe that one of the key elements to personal growth and keeping one’s mind sharp is to constantly challenge your foundational beliefs. A great way to do that is to experience different countries by immersing oneself in new environments.”

At Warwick, Sebastian was an instrumental figure in strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem. He took on the position as President of Warwick Entrepreneurs, one of UK’s largest student-run entrepreneurial societies. During this time, he worked closely with the Warwick Incubator and set up the first entrepreneurial summit at Warwick. 2020 will mark this initiative’s fourth anniversary.

These experiences, combined with supporting Business Development and Fundraising at an early-stage Swedish Contech startup called Fieldly, opened his eyes to the world of venture. He then had a chance to explore this further and learning the ropes by spending the past year interning at Global Founders Capital in Berlin and DN Capital in London.

At byFounders, Sebastian will be the first point of contact for many founders. He will focus a lot on the initial stages of the investment process, which entails sourcing and screening new opportunities. He will also support the broader investment team on competitive dynamics, emerging trends, and portfolio companies.

Sebastian’s primary interests lie within consumer-focused businesses and marketplaces. He’ll be looking further into topics like the Passion Economy, Business-in-a-Box Platforms, and Vertical Social Networks.

Outside of work, he identifies as a mediocre football player, a trivia nerd, and obsessed with Dark Tourism, Mockumentaries, and Lo-Fi DJs.
